Fake Lottery Result Images on WhatsApp: Spot Them

Spot a fake lottery result image on WhatsApp with four checks for draw name, draw number, date, slot and matching text results before you trust or share it.

A fake lottery result can look convincing on WhatsApp, but an image is only a claim until its details match an independently checked result. Use these four checks—draw name and weekday, draw number, date and slot, then the complete number against a text result—before you believe or forward any screenshot.

If the message also asks for a fee, bank detail, OTP or UPI PIN, stop immediately. A result check should never become a payment conversation.

Why fake result images circulate

Lottery result images are easy to crop, recolour or edit. A scammer can use a real old result, change the date or number, and forward it with a message saying that someone has won. A genuine logo, government-style colour or official-looking stamp does not prove that the image came from the draw authority.

The image may be used in several ways:

  • to make a person believe an unrelated ticket has won;
  • to promote a fake online ticket sale or WhatsApp group;
  • to collect a mobile number, Aadhaar number, bank details or other personal information;
  • to create urgency before a request for a release fee, GST, processing charge or security deposit.

Kerala Police warned in July 2026 about fake online lottery websites and social-media promotions that copied official-looking branding. The warning described people being directed to WhatsApp groups or fake websites, then asked for personal information or money to claim a supposed prize. You can read the reported Kerala Police warning about fake lottery websites and social-media scams.

The same pattern can use a fake winning-ticket photo or a result screenshot. Do not assume a message is safe because it came from a friend or family group. The sender may have forwarded it without checking.

Four checks to run on any result image

Use the image as a list of details to verify, not as the source of truth. Keep the message open in one browser tab and the result source in another. If one detail does not match, treat the image as unverified and do not act on it.

Step 1: Match the draw name to the weekday

First read the draw name printed on the image. Then check whether that name belongs to the weekday shown by the date. A draw name that belongs to another weekday is a strong sign that the image has been altered, reused or misunderstood.

For the Lottery Sambad schedule, the three daily slots have fixed names for each weekday. For example, Monday uses RISE at 1 PM, LEGEND at 6 PM and CLOVER at 8 PM. Saturday uses VISION at 1 PM, ELITE at 6 PM and LUCKY at 8 PM. The complete 21-name list is on our Lottery Sambad draw schedule.

Check all three parts together:

Detail on the imageWhat to compare
Draw nameThe weekday and the correct 1 PM, 6 PM or 8 PM slot
DayThe weekday calculated from the printed date
State or scheme nameThe same name used by the result source you opened independently

Do not try to fix a mismatch by assuming the image was made before midnight or that the name is a nickname. Find the result notice for the exact date and slot instead.

Step 2: Check the draw number

Many result sheets identify a draw with a draw number. Compare the number shown in the forwarded image with the number in the result notice or text result for the same draw. It should match the draw name, date and slot—not just the prize number.

A fake image may combine a real draw number with a different date, or show a number that belongs to an older sheet. It may also crop the header so that you cannot see the draw number at all. Missing information is a reason to verify further; it is not proof that the image is genuine.

Do not infer a draw number from the number of days in the month, from a message timestamp or from a sequence typed by the sender. Use the number printed by the issuing source. If the image has no draw number but the official notice does, compare the remaining fields carefully and rely on the full notice before making any claim.

Step 3: Match the date and slot

Read the date in full, including the day, month and year. Then confirm the time slot: 1 PM, 6 PM or 8 PM IST. A result can be real but still belong to a different draw, so matching only the name or a few digits is not enough.

The schedule is especially useful when a forwarded message says “today” or “tonight”. The fixed daily slots are:

SlotTime in IndiaWhat to verify
1 PM1:00 PM ISTThe 1 PM result for that date
6 PM6:00 PM ISTThe 6 PM result for that date
8 PM8:00 PM ISTThe 8 PM result for that date

Check whether the result was available at the time shown in the message. A screenshot claiming to show a result before that draw time deserves extra caution. Do not rely on a phone’s notification time as the draw time; it may be the time someone forwarded the image.

For a current 8 PM check, you can open our Lottery Sambad 8 PM result page. It is an independent reference page, not a government lottery department. Verify a possible prize with the relevant state lottery source before taking any action.

Step 4: Match the complete number against a text result

Finally, compare the complete winning number, including any series letters, with a result written as text. Do not match only the last two or three digits. Check the prize category, series, full number and the date of the draw.

Text is easier to inspect than a compressed image because you can read the whole entry and search the page. Our old result archive lets you find past date-wise results and displays the winning numbers as text. It is useful for locating the correct draw, but it is still an independent information source rather than the organising state’s official publication.

Use this small record while checking:

Draw numberWrite it downWrite it downYes / No
Date and slotWrite it downWrite it downYes / No

If you cannot fill both columns from sources you found yourself, the result is not verified. Never send money just because one number appears to match.

Fake “winning ticket” photos

A photo of a ticket is not the same as a verified ticket. It may show someone else’s ticket, a copied ticket, an edited number or a real ticket from another draw. A close-up photo can also hide the date, series, draw name or issuing information that you need to check.

If someone sends a winning-ticket photo, ask yourself:

  1. Do you personally hold the original ticket connected to the result?
  2. Does the ticket’s draw name, date, series and complete number match the result notice?
  3. Can you identify the organising state and its claim process independently?
  4. Is the sender asking you to pay, share information or contact a private number?

Never post your full ticket number, Aadhaar, PAN, bank statement or phone number in a public group while asking whether a photo is real. If you need help, hide sensitive information before showing it to a trusted person, and use a verified official channel for a prize claim.

Be careful with claims about online lottery tickets too. In the Kerala warning above, authorities cautioned against social-media promotions that presented online lottery sales as genuine. A screenshot of a ticket, receipt or result does not turn an online offer into an authorised sale.

What to do if you are sent one

Follow this order so that you do not accidentally spread the image or give the sender more information.

  1. Pause. Do not celebrate, panic, reply or call the number printed in the message. Urgency is commonly used to stop people from checking independently.
  2. Save evidence. Keep the original image, sender number, chat, link, profile details and the time you received it. Do not edit the evidence before saving it.
  3. Run the four checks. Compare the draw name and weekday, draw number, date and slot, and complete number against an independently opened text result.
  4. Do not pay. Ignore requests for registration, processing, GST, tax clearance, courier, security or release charges sent by an unknown contact. Do not share OTPs, UPI PINs, card PINs or net-banking passwords.
  5. Report and block. Use WhatsApp’s report and block tools after preserving the relevant details. Do not forward the image to warn others; describe it as unverified instead.
  6. Act quickly if money or sensitive data was shared. Call your bank or payment provider through its official channel. In India, report suspected cyber financial fraud to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or call 1930 as soon as possible. Include transaction IDs, UPI details, phone numbers, links and screenshots.

The portal also accepts reports about suspicious websites, WhatsApp numbers, Telegram handles, phone numbers and social-media URLs. A report does not prove that the image was genuine or guarantee recovery of money, but prompt reporting gives the bank and authorities useful information while the transaction trail is recent.

How to verify without trusting the sender

The safest route begins outside the WhatsApp message. Type the website address yourself, use a bookmark you saved earlier, or start from a state lottery department’s known official page. Do not click the result link supplied by a person who is also asking for a fee.

For routine Lottery Sambad checks, the site’s draw schedule, current result pages and old results can help you identify the correct draw. Keep the limits clear: this website is independent and is not connected to any state government, Lottery Sambad newspaper or draw operator. A result table here is a reading aid; verify a possible prize with the official state lottery source.

If the result source and the image disagree, stop at the disagreement. Do not choose the version that shows the larger prize or the number you hoped to see. Do not ask the same sender to “confirm” it, because that only gives a scammer another chance to pressure you.

Common mistakes when checking an image

  • Matching only the last digits and ignoring the series or prize category.
  • Checking the draw name but not the weekday, date or time slot.
  • Treating a logo, seal, signature or government-style design as proof.
  • Assuming a message is genuine because it was forwarded by a known person.
  • Calling a number in the image instead of finding the official contact independently.
  • Paying a fee to release a prize, confirm a result or correct a ticket.
  • Installing an unknown app or sharing screen access to “check” a result.
  • Forwarding the screenshot before you have verified it.

The practical rule is simple: a screenshot can tell you what to check, but only a matching result from an independently found source can support the next step. Even then, follow the organising state’s published claim process and keep your banking credentials private.

FAQ

How can I tell if a lottery result screenshot is fake?

Check the draw name against the weekday, then compare the draw number, full date, slot and complete series-and-number entry with an independently opened text result. If any field is missing or different, treat the screenshot as unverified and do not pay or share personal information.

Can a fake lottery result use a real number?

Yes. Someone can reuse a genuine number from an older draw or attach it to the wrong date, draw name or slot. That is why the complete draw details must match, not just the number itself.

What if a WhatsApp lottery image says I have won?

Do not reply, call the number in the image or pay a release fee. Save the message, check the result independently, report and block the account, and call 1930 promptly if you sent money or shared sensitive details.

Is a photo of a winning lottery ticket proof?

No. The photo may be edited, copied from another draw or missing the information needed to identify the ticket. Match the original ticket and every draw detail with the relevant result and official claim instructions.

Where should I report a lottery image scam in India?

For suspected cyber financial fraud, call 1930 and submit a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Preserve the image, chat, sender details, links, payment records and transaction IDs so they can be included in the report.
